trip to galway

hmmm... haven’t update for a while. maybe after reading my last post, you think i was having a nervous breakdown or something. the truth is, i’m just back from galway, the county on the west coast of the republic of ireland.

what can i say about galway, but beautiful. there were lush green fields everywhere, a rarity in dublin. and the cliffs of moher was breathtaking. more on that later.

the journey to galway took us about four hours by bus. we were greeted by our fellow ex-matrix, jawa. he took us to rafiq’s and aiman’s house, passing through the city centre. the city of galway is certainly not as big as dublin, but it’s developing rapidly. even as we speak the construction of public infrastructures are going under full swing. that’s why currently the roads get congested all the time but i’m sure in a few months time, it will look magnificent.

the atmosphere in galway is somehow different than in dublin. it seemed less hectic and everybody is taking it easy. maybe it’s the people, or the fields or even the cows but i felt a sense of calmness during my stay in galway.

the highlight of the trip was the tour of the burren. what’s interesting about the burren i hear you ask. well basically it’s just rocks, rocks and more rocks and some fields, but beautifully landscaped. for more information, click here. there’re also some ruins, a 6000 year old burial ground, and a lighthouse. but the icing on the cake was of course, the cliffs of moher. a description of the cliffs which i took from here :

"situated in county clare and bordering the burren area, the cliffs of moher are one of ireland's most spectacular sights. standing 230 metres above the ground at their highest point and 8km long, the cliffs boast one of the most amazing views in ireland. on a clear day, the aran islands are visible in galway bay as well as the valleys and hills of connemara"

breathtaking

there are many tour companies that can take you there, but the one we took, o’neachtain tours was great.

wow! what a fine trip we had, a great escape from the hustle and bustle of the city of dublin. highly recommended! (now i sound like an ebay buyer)

thanks to rafiq, aiman, zaquan and zaidan who accepted us with open arms and were the best hosts we could ever hoped for.

i will be back. there’s more to see. i want to explore the aran islands and connemara. next time maybe.

more pictures of the cliffs here.
